As the little one gets older, more traditions are being set, particularly around the holidays. A new Thanksgiving tradition this year is our Thankful Garland. Thank you to the Craft Jr website, I found some nice fall leaf templates to give our garland some variety. Cut out with various construction paper and it’s quite colorful, too. The cutting portion was a family affair. Please allow me to digress here a bit. There’s something great about the entire family sitting around the table working on a project together. Even with just the three of us, it doesn’t happen very often, but oh, how I do enjoy it. I think this mama will find more projects and board games to allow for these moments a little more in our lives.
Back to the garland. Hanging with jute string on our mirror, we added some initial leaves to get us through the first week. Each day we talk about what we’re thankful for, whether it’s around the breakfast table, dinner table or in the car. Each day is represented by one leaf; each gratitude is written on that leaf and hung as a special reminder of our blessings. D’s first Thanks was “Mommy and Daddy”, and with no prompting. Well, that just counted all my blessings right there and then.
What are you thankful for this season?
