We had a birthday here recently – the BIG TWO. A year when personality really starts to emerge and blossom, and… well, where we are also frequent visitors at the Emotion Train Depot.
So, to my little girl in her second year of life, I pause, take note and appreciate all that is you! Your love for the outdoors – particularly birds, pinecones, rocks and dirt. Your continuous love for books – and the ever-growing number of books I must read to you every night. Your need for order – you have a place for everything! Your emerging sense of empathy, feeding and tucking in your animals. Your unique fashion style – knit caps can be worn with shorts and sandals. Your giggle, your full-belly laugh, your fake forced laugh, your squeals. Your desire to run everywhere – your sheer joy of getting to your destination then turning around and starting over. Your wonderful balance of risk taking and caution. Your need to express your individuality, but, at the same time, still think mommy and daddy are your favorite playmates. That mischievous glint in your eye when you know you’re about to do something you shouldn’t, like throw a cup of water at mommy, daddy and the dog.
Yes, you are two. You keep me chanting this to myself every day, you keep us on our toes, and… I can’t wait to learn and grow with you more in the coming year.
I love you little one!
