We have grass!

We just returned home from a week-long vacation to CA (more to come on that later), so I’m a little behind on posting these photos, but…WE HAVE GRASS!  We layed it all out two weeks ago and it’s growing, well, like a weed.  We were nervous leaving it for a week during this crucial growth period – will the roots take? will the sprinklers do their job? will the rabbits feast like kings on it?  But, lo and behold, we came back to nice, healthy (and lengthy) green blades.

While we were away, a major haboob hit the Phoenix area (aka tsunami-style dust storm) so we returned home to a nice thick layer of dirt covering everything.  We’re waiting (and hoping!) for the monsoon rains to come and wash it all away, but for now, we managed to hose off the majority of the yard and walk ways.  Yuck!  These photos were taken once everything was back to its original color.  I also found a photo we took of the backyard when we first bought it as the “before” photo.

By the way, if you’ve never seen a haboob, it’s amazing in every sense of the word.  Here’s a video of the recent storm.

  1. Looks great you guys, but a lot of work. Chris helped me and Steve remove almost half the grass in our small backyard – actually a part where the grass would not grow – and convert it with stones and plants. I’ll send you a picture when it is completed.

    • Thanks Aunt Carole! Yes, it was definitely labor intensive, but rewarding now that it’s all done. I look forward to seeing photos of your yard once it’s complete. I hope all is well with you!
